2000 There was never more beginning than now
Voice, Body and Perception in Contact Münsterische Zeitung, December 24, 2000
“Our main focus lies on the communication between body and medium”,
Christiane Hommelsheim described the character of the performance “There
was never more beginning than now”, developed with her collegue
Walli Höfinger, which she presented in the Cuba Cultural Center
on Thursday evening. The audience was impressed by the artistic duo’s
presentation.
The ephemer-Verein zur Förderung der ephemeren Kunst e.V. (Association
for the Support of the Ephemeral Arts) invited spectators to this unusual
event, part of the performance festival “Duo-Performance - Performance-Duos”. “This
art form is often preferred by soloists, which is why we focused on the
concrete observation of duo performances", explained Stefan Us from
ephemer-verein, ”because a cooperation like this is very complex.“.
The two young women’s performance was correspondingly impressive.
The focus was on the connection between voice, body and visual perception,
which communicated a vivid image of restlessness. Movement was constantly
coming into play, either on the screen in the background or the acoustic
signals, initially faint, which the artist built up to a powerful soundscape.
The choreographic presentation was especially convincing. The spectator
felt directly addressed and included in the action. Whether it was when
Walli Höfinger jumped rope or when Christiane Hommelsheim took a
crazy journey into the human mind, one felt like a direct participant.
“
This was the purpose of our performance.” Christiane Hommelsheim
expressed her satisfaction with the success of the presentation. A physical
presence that captivates the spectator has always been very important
for her. But using different media in space is also an important part
of the work, Walli Höfinger added. All in all a splendid performance,
which truly created an interest in this art form, especially for a “lay
audience”.
