Saarbrücker Wochenspiegel, January 14, 2004

The teachers at the Saar Academy of Fine Arts were asked to name female alumni and students in their postgraduate year worthy of attention for their special talent and original and independent artworks. The jury included Prof. Anita Burgard from the Trier Technical College, Prof. Christina Lichtenstern from the Art History Faculty of the University of Saarland, Prof. Ulrike Rosenbach from the Saar Academy of Fine Arts and Claudia Hemgesberg-Fournier, women’s representative at the Saar Academy of Fine Arts, and two students, Maria Kowalski and Iris Costenoble. They named three individual winners and an artist duo for the award.
The two winners from the design department are Juliane Witte and Lin Zheng, recommended by Prof. Andreas Brandolini. Juliane Witte’s works include different product developments with glass, lighting, space design and technical installations. Lin Zheng designs furniture and works in the field of "Bionics and Design”. She also developed a home robot, an electronic "companion for the road”. Her contribution to the design competition "Alternatives 2002” won the second prize.
The winners from the fine art department are the alumna Kerstin Burst (Art Pedagogy and Painting), recommended by Prof. Bodo Baumgarten, and the duo Walli Höfinger and Christiane Hommelsheim (New Artistic Media), recommended by Prof. Ulrike Rosenbach.
Kerstin Burst’s work focuses on the nude in all forms of drawing and painting. The duo Höfinger & Hommelsheim develops synesthetic performance projects with movement, video, sound and light. Their artistic work covers the areas of performance, video installation and composition.
An exhibition with works by all the prizewinners will be shown until January 28. The exhibition will also include works by prizewinners from 2002: Henriette Kreck, Annette Peter and Susanne Wilms.
