2004 Women's award of the Saar Academy of Fine Arts
Award for Promising Female Artists at the Saar Academy of Fine Arts Saarbrücker Wochenspiegel, January 14, 2004
The teachers at the Saar Academy of Fine Arts were asked to name female
alumni and students in their postgraduate year worthy of attention for
their special talent and original and independent artworks. The jury
included Prof. Anita Burgard from the Trier Technical College, Prof.
Christina Lichtenstern from the Art History Faculty of the University
of Saarland, Prof. Ulrike Rosenbach from the Saar Academy of Fine Arts
and Claudia Hemgesberg-Fournier, women’s representative at the
Saar Academy of Fine Arts, and two students, Maria Kowalski and Iris
Costenoble. They named three individual winners and an artist duo for
the award.
The two winners from the design department are Juliane Witte and Lin
Zheng, recommended by Prof. Andreas Brandolini. Juliane Witte’s
works include different product developments with glass, lighting, space
design and technical installations. Lin Zheng designs furniture and works
in the field of "Bionics and Design”. She also developed a
home robot, an electronic "companion for the road”. Her contribution
to the design competition "Alternatives 2002” won the second
prize.
The winners from the fine art department are the alumna Kerstin Burst
(Art Pedagogy and Painting), recommended by Prof. Bodo Baumgarten, and
the duo Walli Höfinger and Christiane Hommelsheim (New Artistic
Media), recommended by Prof. Ulrike Rosenbach.
Kerstin Burst’s work focuses on the nude in all forms of drawing
and painting. The duo Höfinger & Hommelsheim develops synesthetic
performance projects with movement, video, sound and light. Their artistic
work covers the areas of performance, video installation and composition.
An exhibition with works by all the prizewinners will be shown until
January 28. The exhibition will also include works by prizewinners from
2002: Henriette Kreck, Annette Peter and Susanne Wilms.
